Why inserting a card does not change the recording destination
The distinction matters when preparing for a long outing: fitting a card to the dock is not the same operation as clearing space inside the camera. DJI explicitly says footage cannot be stored directly on the dock card. Treat recording and offloading as separate parts of your workflow.
To move material to the card, attach the camera to the Vision Dock with the lens facing forward and choose Export to SD card. Check that you are using the export command, rather than expecting the card to become the camera’s live recording destination.
Computer transfer and the point of no return
For computer transfer, the camera again attaches lens-forward to the dock; the cable connects the dock to the computer. This is the documented transfer arrangement, not a claim that every cable or third-party dock is compatible.
Formatting permanently deletes data. Back up the photos and clips you need before using it to reclaim space. Do not substitute formatting for an export operation when the originals are still your only copy.

FAQ
DJI Osmo Nano frequently asked questions
Each answer stays within the facts and sources shown on this page.
01Why does adding a card to the Vision Dock not add direct recording space?
The dock card is for exporting existing footage. Nano records internally; attach the camera lens-forward and choose Export to SD card when you want to offload it.
