MK4S materials: open-printer choices and enclosure conditions

Direct answer

Prusa lists PLA, PETG, Flex, PVA, PC, PP, CPE and PVB for MK4S. Its technical table separately conditions ABS, ASA, HIPS and PA on an Original Prusa Enclosure with filtration. The 290°C nozzle and 120°C heatbed limits do not remove those conditions.

Choose a configuration, not just a polymer name

Keep the two groups in the manufacturer’s table separate. An enclosure-conditioned material is not an open-printer default, and an unspecified enclosure should not be treated as equivalent to the stated enclosure-and-filtration configuration.

A listed polymer family does not determine the exact sheet preparation, filament grade or print profile. Use the actual material’s guidance and the MK4S profile together rather than filling those missing details from the material name alone.

Check nozzle and feeder choices separately

The included nozzle is a 0.4 mm high-flow brass CHT unit. If MMU3 is part of the job, Prusa’s standard-nozzle guidance adds a waste-versus-flow decision; it does not make all materials suitable for multi-material feeding.

Stop if the proposed profile exceeds either hardware ceiling or omits a required configuration. This page intentionally does not invent per-material temperatures: a maximum rating cannot supply an absent manufacturer profile.

FAQ

Original Prusa MK4S frequently asked questions

Each answer stays within the facts and sources shown on this page.

01Do the MK4S maximum temperatures define the correct profile for every filament?

No. The 290°C nozzle and 120°C bed are hardware ceilings. Material suitability also depends on the documented configuration, including the enclosure and filtration condition for specified materials.
