What you need to use DOG 6 XL beyond the tracker itself

Direct answer

DOG 6 XL's built-in SIM requires an active Tractive subscription covering its mobile service. You also need a supported phone and the Tractive app. Its 2–3 second LIVE tracking interval describes the mode, not guaranteed coverage at every destination.

Start with the phone you will carry

The DOG 6 XL product table lists Android 10.0+ and iOS 17.0+. Check the actual phone and the supported Tractive app before activating service. The built-in SIM is part of the hardware; the active subscription provides its mobile tracking service.

Choose the history window you need

Tractive's model guide says all trackers work with Premium and Basic where Basic is available. Its app-feature guide lists up to 365 days of location history with Premium and the last 24 hours with Basic.

If you need to review older routes, this is a concrete plan difference to check before activation. It is separate from current price or local availability, which should be checked for the service you are actually offered.

No location update? Separate mode, GPS and mobile service

The 2–3 second figure describes LIVE tracking, not a promise of coverage everywhere. For DOG 6 XL, pressing the power button once shows the upper-left network LED and upper-right GPS LED. Read them in that order: green–green means both connections are present; red–green means GPS without cellular; green–red means cellular without GPS.

Tractive advises better mobile coverage for the missing-cellular case, and outdoor or open space for the missing-GPS case, then waiting a minute and checking again. White–white indicates a Power Saving Zone. If a destination remains uncertain, ask Tractive about the exact model and intended location instead of selecting a plan on the assumption that it strengthens signal.

01Does the DOG 6 XL built-in SIM remove the subscription fee?
