SmartDoor microchip support is size-specific
Both Medium and Large SmartDoor packages include a Pet Door Key, but implanted-microchip access is documented only for cats using the Medium door. The supported chip types and the pet’s actual identifier need checking before purchase. A Large door should not be assumed to read implanted chips because the smaller version can.
Choose the required opening size and identification route together. If a collar key is needed, include it in the plan for the actual pet rather than relying on an existing implanted chip. Door power and schedules need the selected configuration
Medium SmartDoor uses four C-cell alkaline batteries; Large uses four D-cell alkaline batteries, with an optional power adapter available for either size. Match the power requirement to the selected door instead of purchasing batteries from a generic SmartDoor description. The supported network and app setup also remain separate requirements.
My PetSafe provides per-pet schedules, remote locking and notifications. Those controls describe the documented connected workflow, not a guarantee that every animal can use the installed door without training or that a schedule substitutes for checking the actual pet and opening. Smart Feed portions, food and network are separate checks
Smart Feed Second Generation has a 24-cup capacity for dry or semi-moist food and schedules up to 12 meals daily, from 1/8 cup to 4 cups per meal. It requires a 2.4 GHz home network. These are device conditions, not a nutrition recommendation; decide the pet’s actual meal plan independently before programming portions.
Slow Feed applies to meals larger than 1/8 cup and dispenses them over 15 minutes. The compatible Meal Splitter provides another documented feeding arrangement, but simultaneous access is not the same as individualized food restriction. Check which problem the accessory solves rather than assuming every multi-pet option separates each animal’s intake.
Backup power and support need a specific plan
Smart Feed’s AC adapter and optional four-D-cell backup arrangement are separate power conditions; the backup batteries are not included in the documented package. Distinguish a network issue from a power issue when preparing a feeding routine, and check the exact manufacturer instructions for the installed power configuration.
