A practical charging and wearing routine for DOG 6

Direct answer

DOG 6's battery claim is up to 14 days with Power Saving Zones, or up to six days without them. A charge takes about two hours using a 5V USB supply. Before connecting power, check for moisture, excessive heat, swelling or visible damage; those signs take priority over the normal charging routine.

Work out which battery claim describes your use

A Power Saving Zone uses Wi-Fi or a Tractive Base Station, and LIVE tracking is unavailable while the tracker remains inside it. The longer battery claim therefore comes with a change in tracking availability, not simply a larger number of days.

If your DOG 6 is not using a Power Saving Zone, the relevant headline is up to six days, not 14. Neither figure is a fixed charging deadline or a battery-replacement interval. Use them as conditional manufacturer estimates when planning the routine.

    Before plugging in

Use a 5V USB adapter, with charging carried out at 0–45°C in a ventilated area away from flammable materials. A connector that fits is not a substitute for checking the supply requirement.

If the LEDs indicate moisture, do not charge. Tractive's instruction is to wipe with a lint-free cloth and air-dry for 24 hours; the charging port must still be completely dry before charging. If it remains wet or the blue moisture LEDs remain on, do not connect the charger. If the tracker becomes excessively hot or swollen, or has bite marks or other visible damage, stop using it and contact Tractive. Do not open or modify the unit to investigate.

Watch for the full charging bar

For a dry, undamaged DOG 6, open the protective cover, connect the USB-C cable and use the specified supply. The bottom LED lights while charging; the whole bar being lit indicates a full charge.

If normal charging does not begin, use the fault guide's dry-unit connection check. Moisture, heat and damage warnings take priority over that check.

When returning it to the collar

The supplied DOG 6 clip is specified for collars up to 2.8 cm wide. Recheck that measurement if you change collars; a tracker that charged normally still needs the correct attachment.

Inspect the charging-port cover as part of this check. Tractive provides a replacement route when the cover is lost or no longer sits flush. A replacement cover is a part-maintenance action, not confirmation of a new waterproof rating: DOG 6's rating remains unresolved across the cited documents.

          FAQ

Tractive DOG 6 frequently asked questions

Each answer stays within the facts and sources shown on this page.

01How long does DOG 6 run, and how long does charging take?

Tractive gives up to 14 days with Power Saving Zones and up to six days without them. Charging takes about two hours. The runtime figures are conditional estimates, while the charging time describes replenishing the battery.

02Which DOG 6 battery figure should I use without a Power Saving Zone?

Use the up-to-six-day claim, not the up-to-14-day figure that assumes Power Saving Zones. Neither is a guaranteed deadline for charging or a battery-replacement interval.
