The feeder is not recognizing the pet
Check which identifier the pet is actually using. The supported choices are a registered microchip and the Sure Petcare RFID Collar Tag. Another brand’s tag is not established as a substitute by the word RFID alone.
Confirm whether that identifier has been registered to this feeder. A pet having a chip is not the same as this feeder having its identity recorded. If the chip type or registration is uncertain, consult Sure Petcare’s instructions or support before attempting a reset.
The feeder’s maximum of 32 stored identities is a capacity specification, not proof that a particular pet is registered or that memory capacity caused the symptom.

The pet is recognized but backs away from the lid
Follow Sure Petcare’s staged training sequence and judge progress by confidence with the current lid movement. Do not advance because an arbitrary number of days has passed. The training guide is the next step when the difficulty is accepting movement rather than identifying the pet.
The feeder is used, but the app does not show what you expect
Connected records and portion settings require the Hub and Sure Petcare app. Investigate that route when the missing result is in the app. Buying a Hub does not, by itself, register a pet identifier, and changing a pet identifier is not a general remedy for a missing connected record.
If the cause remains unclear, send support the exact feeder model, identifier type, registration status, lid behavior and the connected result you expected. Keep these observations separate; they are a description for investigation, not a confirmed fault diagnosis.

Observe the power and training signals too
If the low-battery indicator is flashing, Sure Petcare says the batteries need changing. Treat that as a battery-maintenance prompt, not as proof that the pet’s identity has been erased.
An open lid also needs context: in the first training stage it is meant to stay open after feeding, with the orange light flashing once every few seconds. Tell support the actual light pattern and current training state rather than labeling every open lid a recognition failure.

Each answer stays within the facts and sources shown on this page.
01Will adding a Hub fix an unregistered pet identifier?
No. Registering the pet’s microchip or named Sure Petcare collar tag belongs to feeder access; the Hub provides the app-connected route. Confirm the identifier and its registration before buying a networking accessory for an access problem.
