Start with an open, familiar feeding place
After entering the first training stage, fill the bowl you intend to use with the pet’s usual preferred food and put the feeder in its normal eating spot. The open lid is intentional: Sure Petcare’s first stage lets the pet become comfortable with the new bowl before lid movement is introduced.
Wait until the pet is happy using the bowl before moving on. A lid that remains open in this stage is not, on its own, evidence of a closing fault.
Introduce a little movement, then build up
Press Fn again when the pet is comfortable. The lid closes a small amount and the orange light flashes twice. When the pet eats, the lid opens fully, then closes slightly afterward. Let the pet get used to that movement before changing the stage.
- At the next comfortable step, press Fn again: the lid moves to the next position and the orange signal becomes 3 flashes.
- After the pet accepts that movement, another Fn press takes it to the final training position with 4 orange flashes.
- Do not move forward while the pet is still unsure about the current movement.
Refill without losing the training position
Sure Petcare says to replace the food normally. Afterward, press the open/close button so the lid returns to its training position. Keep that button’s refill role separate from Fn, which changes the training stage.
Once the pet is confident with the final training position, press Fn again. The lid closes fully, the orange flashing stops and the feeder enters daily-use mode. Ending training is a separate button action after confidence at the final stage—not simply the passage of time.
If progress stops, identify which problem you have
Hesitation around a moving lid belongs with this gradual introduction. Failure to recognize the pet belongs with its registered microchip or Sure Petcare tag. If recognition is uncertain, check that separately instead of repeatedly advancing the lid or borrowing reset steps from another feeder.

01Why does the lid stay open after eating during early training?
That is intentional in the first training stage. The orange light flashes once every few seconds and the lid remains open while the pet becomes comfortable with the bowl. Advance with Fn only when the pet is ready; do not treat this training behavior alone as a closing fault.
